POLICE HEAD
QUARTERS
For the development and advancement of civilization and culture, the
establishment of rule of law is a must. It is the Police, which enforces the law
and order in
the society and thus help protect the pace of development.
The Police Head Quarters was established in the year 1965. It was then
headed by an Inspector General of Police. The first Inspector General of Police was
Sri R.N. Sheopoory, IPS from 1965 to 1967. On 2nd February 1987,Sri
H.C. Jatav, IPS
joined as the first Director General of Police, Tripura.
The State is divided into 4 Police
Districts comprising 22 Police sub-divisions, 63
Police Stations and 37 Police Out Posts. The organisation as
of now have 2 Director General of Police, 5 Inspector Generals of Police,
5 DIGsP
and Superintendents / Commandants of various units. There
are 13 Battalions of Tripura State Rifles of which
9 are India Reserve Battalions.

SHRI
PRANAY SAHAY, IPS,
THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, TRIPURA |

Born
on 10th July 1953, Shri Sahay completed
his schooling from Bikaner and Ajmer. He did B.Sc (Hons)
and M.Sc. (Physics) from Govt. Collage, Ajmer in
1974 and joined the Indian Police Service on 14th
November 1975. He was allotted to the Tripura Part
of the Manipur- Tripura Cadre. During his service in
Tripura from 1976 till 1984 he functioned as
Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Addl. Superintendent
of Police and District Superintendent of Police in
Tripura. He was also SP (CID), Tripura for one year.
He subsequently went on deputation to the Govt. of
India and functioned as Commandant, CISF, BCCL,
Dhanbad and Commander, CISF, BHEL, Bhopal from
August 1984 to September 1988. He returned back to
Tripura in November 1988 and worked as AIG of
Police, DIG (Range) and DIG(CID). On the occasion of
the Independence Day 1992, Shri Sahay was awarded
the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Shri Sahay served as DIG, CRPF,
Gandhinagar (Gujrat) from December 1994 to May 1996.
In view of the criticality of the situation in
Tripura he was recalled well before completing his
tenure of deputation and posted as IGP(Law & Order),
Tripura, from June 1996 onwards before joining
Hindustan Zinc Limited on deputation in November
1999. In the meantime, Shri Sahay was awarded the
President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services
on the occasion of Independence Day, 1998.
During his three year tenure as
Executive Director (Vigilance), Hindustan Zinc Ltd.,
Shri Sahay was also entrusted the responsibility of
Chief Vigilance Officer, Mineral Exploration Ltd.,
Nagpur and also Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur. He
underwent foreign training at London and visited
many European countries during this tenure.
Shri Sahay assumed the charge of Addl.
Director General of Police, Tripura on 25th
November 2002 and was entrusted with Law & Order,
Armed Police, Operations and Training which he
continuously held upto 31.08.05. Shri Sahay was
awarded Police (Antrik Suraksha Seva) Padak in April
2004.During his tenure in Tripura, Shri Sahay came
in for special commendation from the Election
Commission of India for his clarity, skill and
professional competence in handling all election
related matters at the State level in an
Insurgency-charged environment. The State Level
Co-ordination Committee handling insurgency-related
matters placed on record the outstanding
contribution of Shri Sahay in planning, coordinating
and executing operations against extremist groups
and in achieving meaningful results.
Shri Sahay took charge of IG, Central
Industrial Security Force (West Sector) at Mumbai on
8th September 2005. Shri Sahay led a
delegation of very senior police and paramilitary
officers for an Anti-Terrorism Programme at
Washington in August 2006. His contribution to the
programme came in for profuse appreciation from the
Department of State, USA. Shri Sahay was awarded
DG’s Disc and repeated commendations during his
tenure in CISF. He handed over the charge of IG(West
Sector), CISF, Mumbai in the afternoon of 10.12.2007
and assumed charge of Addl. DG, North Zone, CRPF,
Chandigarh on 13.12.2007 (FN). He functioned as
Addl. DG, North Zone, CRPF, Chandigarh from
13/12/2007 to 10/07/08, during which period he held
the operational charge of Jammu & Kashmir. The CRPF
during this period achieved spectacular operational
results both in terms of significant reduction of
militancy levels and with regard to violence
management.

SHRI K. SALEEM ALI, IPS,
THE DIRECTOR
GENERAL OF POLICE (INTELLIGENCE) |

Shri K. Saleem Ali
joined the Indian Police Service in M. T. Cadre in
1978. After joining Tripura Police, he served as
SDPO, Amarpur, Addl. SP (North), and SP South.
After a very successful tenure in South District he
was posted as SP West, Asstt. I. G. of Police, SP
(SB). Shri Ali was on Central deputation in CBI as
SP & DIG. He was also posted as IGP (AP & Trg), IGP
(L/O & AP) in Tripura Police for a period of 4 years
subsequently he went on deputation to
ITBP
as IG and later moved to CBI as Joint Director.
Shri Ali was
decorated with the Indian Police Medal for
Meritorious Service in
1995
and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished
Service in 2001.
Shri Ali on
completion of his central deputation took over the
charge of the Director General of Police
(Intelligence), Tripura on 28/03/2009 (FN) in
Tripura Police.

BISHNU KISHORE DEB BARMA, IPS,
THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (INT)

Shri B. K. Debbarma, TPS Gr.-I was
appointed as IPS (SPS) in the Manipur-Tripura cadre
in the year 1992 with year of allotment of 1987.
After joining as IPS he held the posts as SP (West),
SP (CID), AIG (OPS) and thereafter promoted to the
post as DIG of Police. As DIG he held the post of
DIG (CID), DCG (HG), DIG (Welfare) DIG-AP (OPS-II)
etc. He was promoted to the post of IGP on 25-4-2005
and posted successively as IGP (Admn), IGP (Int),
IGP (TSR & Ops) etc. Shri Debbarma is presently
working as IGP (Int).
He was awarded Indian Police Medal
for Meritorious Service on the eve of Republic Day,
2007. |

MAZUMDAR, IPS
JOINT COMMANDANT GENERAL(HGs) |

Shri P.K. Majumdar [M.A. (English)]
joined the State Police Service as a direct Dy.S.P.
in 1977.He was promoted as Addl.S.P.in 1989.In 1990
he was posted as Addl,S.P.,South District he had
also held the independent charge of S.P., South
District in 1990.From 1990 to 1993 he was posted as
S.P.(Vigilance).He was promoted to the Indian
Police Service (IPS) in the year 1992 and his
year of allotment in the IPS was 1988.He had held
the charges of S.P.(Comn), S.P. (CID),S.P.(E.B),S.P.(MTF)
etc. till he was promoted as Dy.I.G.P.(EB) in the
year 2003.Thereafter he had held the charges of
Dy.I.G.P.(Comn) / Dy.I.G.P.(Trg) / Dy.I.G.P.(AP)
respectively. He was promoted as Inspector General
of Police in the year 2007 and was posted as Joint
Commandant General (Home Guards).
He had received the Indian Police Medal for
meritorious service on the occasion of Republic Day,
2008 for his excellent services. |

SHYAM SUNDAR CHATURVEDI, IPS
INSPECTOR
GENERAL OF POLICE ( TSR & OPS)

Shri S. S. Chaturvedi joined in the
Indian Police Service in the MT cadre in the year
1990. He was initially appointed as ASP (North) and
later posted as SDPO (Kamalpur), SDPO (Udaipur).
Subsequently he held the post of SP (EB), SP
(South), AIG(HQ), SP (SB).
In April 2002 Shri Chaturvedi joined
special Protection Group as AIG on deputation. On
promotion he continued in SPG as DIG. On his return
from central deputation he was promoted and posted
as IGP (TSR OPS) Tripura. Presently he is continuing
in the same post.
He was awarded UN medal in the year
1999 and Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service
in the year 2007. |

JOYDEB NAYAK, IPS
INSPECTOR
GENERAL OF POLICE ( ADMINISTRATION)

Shri Joydeep Nayak,
IPS was appointed as Indian Police Service in the
year 1981 in the Manipur Tripura segment. After
joining in Tripura Police he was initially posted as
ASP in West Distt. on 05-12-96. Thereafter Shri
Nayak was posted as SDPO (Amarpur), Addl. SP (Dhalai),
Comdt(HG), SP(North). He was also on deputation as
AIG/Comdt. in the CISF Organization. He was also
posted as AIG (OPS). Shri Nayak was promoted to the
post of DIG of Police on 3rd December,
2007, he functioned as DIG (Southern Range) & DIG
(Northern range). After getting promotion to the
post of IGP he is holding the post of
IGP(Administration) . |

SHRI BIMAL
KANTI RAY, IPS,
THE DY. INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ( SOUTHERN
RANGE)

Shri B. K. Ray, TPS Gr. I was
appointed as Indian Police Service (SPS) in the
Manipur Tripura cadre in the year 1993. After his
induction in the Indian Police Service he held the
posts as SP (Dhalai), SP (OPS), SP (South), SP
(Procurement) & also as AIG (OPS) and AIG (HQ). Shri
Ray was promoted as DIG and was posted as DIG (HQ),
DIG (Northern Range) and also DIG (S/Range). He
served in Kosovo as a member of the UN Peace Keeping
Force. Now Shri Ray is now posted as DIGP (Southern
Range).
He was awarded Indian Police Medal
for Meritorious Service on the eve of Independence
Day, 2000, UN Peace Keeping Medal in 2001 and Antrik
Surakhsa Seva Padak in 2002. |

NEPAL CHANDRA DAS, IPS,
THE DY. INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (
HOME GUARDS)

Shri
Nepal Chandra Das, BA, born in 1955, joined the
State Police Service as a direct Dy. SP on
18-09-1983. After basic training in Barrackpur, West
Bengal, and probation in the state, he was posted as
SDPO Udaipur, South Tripura w.e.f October, 1985 to
March 1988. He worked as Addl. SP (Urban)/(Rural)
West Tripura District, ADC to Governor, Commandant
(Provisioning) and SP (Operation). He was promoted
to IPS on 06-04-99 with seniority of 1994. He was
posted as SP (Dhalai) in Dhalai District on
04-09-99, he was posted as SP (North) at Kailashahar
on 13-10-99. He was also posted as Commandant, Home
Guards, SP (CID). He was promoted to DIG of Police
w.e.f 01-01-08 and Posted as DIG Home Guards.
In recognition of his outstanding service he
received DGPs Commendation Disc in 2007 and the
Police Medal for meritorious service on the occasion
of Republic Day, 2008..

SHRI
ARINDAM NATH,
THE ASSISTANT INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (HQs)

Sri Arindam Nath, TPS joined
Tripura Police on 20-04-1990. While undergoing
basic training at NEPA, Shillong, he stood first
in Law & was awarded trophy during 1991.
On successful completion of
probation period he was posted as SDPO Udaipur, in
July 1992. He was promoted to Addl. SP in October
1998 and to TPS Grade-I in December 2002. Apart
from SDPO Udaipur he has served various capacities
like Dy. SP (Central), Addl. SP (OPS) South, Addl.
SP (Rural), West, Commandant 5th BN TSR
and SP (Dhalai) district. He is presently posted
as AIG (HQs) from April 2007.
He is extremely successful Police
Officer in the field & in office as well. He led
many successful encounters against extremist
leading to death of extremist recovery of
sophisticated weapons and other incriminating
articles. While he was posted as SP (Dhalai)
district in the year August 2005, 21 NLFT
extremists surrendered with 13 numbers of
sophisticated weapons, huge quantity of
ammunitions and grenades.
His Courageous anti-extremist work
fetched him DGP's Commendation Disk on the
occasion of of Police Week 2000.
