Suranjan Gupta (Inspector of Police)

Born : 01-02-1954.
Died : 01-12-2005.

              Suranjan Gupta, an Arts Graduate joined in Tripura police as sub -inspector of police on 23-07-1979. He was promoted to the rank of inspector of police on 25-10-2000.

              He served in police department for about 27 years. During his long tenure of service he served in different wings as also in various districts in police department. Wherever he had been posted he proved his efficiency and spirit. For his sincere and dedicated work he had received numerous rewards and GS Marks in his service records. In all he received 83 rewards and four GS Marks during his service period.

              While posted in Pecharthal PS he was instrumental in arresting one dreaded dacoit and recovered some arms and ammunitions in C/W PTL PS case No.3(2)92, in another case in Pecharthal PS he was successful in a rescue operation of a kidnapped person which refers to PTL case No. 9(2)92.

           Service of Suranjan Gupta in security wing also deserves a mention. He had successfully handled the day to day work of the sensitive security wing. He was equally efficient in administrative works also. He served as staff officer of DGP, Tripura in PHQ with good reputation.

             Suranjan Gupta died on 01-12-2005 in a road accident while he was on active duty monitoring the traffic arrangement. On the Ill-fated day he was proceeding towards north gate area to supervise traffic arrangement in connection with a procession organized on the occasion of world Aids Day scheduled to start from Astabal Ground. When he was at the traffic stop line near North gate traffic post he saw an army vehicle proceeding towards North gate in wrongful manner. He at once signaled the driver of the army vehicle to halt. But the driver of the said vehicle did not pay heed to the signal given by Suranjan Gupta and tried to speed away. Suranjan Gupta who was riding a motor cycle try to get down near the vehicle to get it stopped for the violation of traffic rules. But in the mean time the vehicle dashed against the motor cycle of Suranjan Gupta at about 1115 hrs at North gate knocking him down and leaving him seriously wounded. He was immediately shifted to G.B. Hospital by the other traffic personnel on duty, where he succumbed to his injuries.

             Inspector Suranjan Gupta will be long remembered by Tripura police for his supreme sacrifice in the discharge of his duties.
