Methods of appointment of the members of the Rifles:

The members of the rifles shall be appointed by one or more of the following methods:

  1. Direct recruitment

  2. Promotion

  3. Re-employment of ex-services or ex-central police organisation personnel; and

  4. Deputation or transfer of the personnel of Armed Forces of the union or Central police Organisation of any state

Seventy-five percent of direct recruitment in all ranks shall be made from within Tripura and the remaining 25% of such direct recruitment shall be made from states and union Territories outside Tripura.

Recruitment rules of the rifles are as follows:-

Recruitment rules for the post of Enrolled Followers:- Recruitment to the post of Enrolled Followers shall be made from amongst person who satisfy the following conditions, namely:

  1. Should be in the age group of 18-21 years as on 1st day of July of the year in which advertisement for recruitment is made;

  2. should possess good physique;

  3. should be able to read and write a simple passage in their mother tongue; and

  4. should have proficiency in the work for which they are to be engaged; and

  5. should pass such test as may be specified by the Inspector General in writing.

Recruitment rules for the post of rifleman:- Recruitment for the posts of rifleman shall be made from amongst persons including ex-service and ex-central Police Organisation Personnel who satisfy the following conditions viz.- 

  1. Should be in the age group of 18-21 years on 1st day of July of the year in which advertisement for recruitment is made;

  2. Should not have knock-knee or flat-foot or squint in eye;

  3. Should have minimum height of 167.64 cms (5’-6") relax able to 162.450 cms (5’-4") for Gorkha, Kumaonese and Tribal;

  4. minimum chest measurements of those whose height is 167.64 cms (5’-6") should be 78.74 cms(31") unexpanded and 83.82 cms(33") expanded and whose height is less than 167.64 cms the corresponding chest measurements should be 76.20 cms(30") and 81.28 (32"");

  5. should have passed at least VIII class, provided that those belonging to ST communities as also ex-service personnel who have read up to primary standard (IV class) shall also be eligible; and

  6. should have qualified in such physica, written and oral test as may be prescribed by the Inspector General.

Recruitment rules for the posts of lance Naiks, Naiks and Havildars:-

The post of Lance Naiks, and Havildars should be filled in by officiating promotion of the persons included respectively in the current lists ‘A’ ‘B’ ‘C’.

If the suitable candidates are not available from these list, than the posts may be filled in by deputation or transfer of the serving personnel of the state or central police organization or by reemployment of ex-service or ex-CPOs personnel.

To be eligible for appointment to these posts by deputation or transfer, a serving personnel of a state or central police organization should :-

  1. Hold corresponding rank in his parent organization or be qualified for promotion to such a rank in his parent organisation; and

  2. Have been approved for such transfer or deputation by the DIG.

To be eligible for re-employment to these posts an ex-services or ex-CPOs should:

  1. have retired or discharged, not earlier than 24 months of such re-employment from the formation concerned in the corresponding rank;

  2. have possessed exemplary or very good or good character while in his pervious service;

  3. not have attained the age of 40 years as on the 1st day of July of the year in which appointment is made.

Notwithstanding the provision mentioned above, if the Inspector General considers it expedient, posts of Havildar, not exceeding 20% of the sanctioned posts, may be filled in by direct recruitment from amongst persons who fulfil the following conditions:

Conditions (a) (b) (c) (d) and (e) mentioned for the post of Rifleman, are the same.

Besides these, persons should have passed at least 12th class or an equivalent examination conducted by a recognised board or university.

Recruitment Rules for the posts of Naib Subedars and Subedars:-

Recruitment for the posts of Naib Subedars and Subedars may be filled in by deputation or transfer of the serving personnel of the state or the central police organisation or by re-employment of the ex-services or ex-CPOs personnel.

To be eligible for re-employment to these posts an ex.-services or ex-central police organizations personnel should:-

  1. hold corresponding rank in his parent organisation or be qualified for Promotion to such a rank in his parent organisation; and

  2. have been approved for such deputation or transfer by the Inspector General.

To be eligible for re-employment to these posts an ex-services or ex-CPOs personnel should;

  1. have retired or discharged, not earlier than 24 months of such re-employment from the formation concerned, in the corresponding rank;

  2. have possessed exemplary or very good character while in his previous service;

  3. not have attained the age of 47 years as on the 1st day of July of the year in which appointment is made, and

Apart from these, there is a scope for direct recruitment in the post of Nb/Subedar from amongst persons who fulfill the following conditions:

  1. should be in age group of 18-23 years as on 1st day of July of the year in which advertisement for recruitment is made;

  2. Should not have knock-knee or flat-foot or squint in eye;

  3. the measurement of chest and height are as same as a Rifleman;

  4. should be a graduate from a recognised university. But education qualification shall be relaxable to passed H.S.....+2 (stage) exam in case of ST candidates only.

The appointment against the post of Subedars whether by promotion or by transfer deputation or by  re-employment shall be made according  to the provisions of "Tripura public service commission regulations 1973.

Superannuation :

The age for Superannuation for the members of the Rifles shall be as under:-

Rank, Age of Superannuation;

  1. Subedars : 55 years.
  2. Naib Subedars : 55 years.
  3. Havildars : 50 years.
  4. Naiks : 50 years.
  5. Lance Naiks : 50 years.
  6. Rifleman : 50 years.
  7. Enrolled followers 50 years.

Scale of pay and other allowances (Revised scale)

Apart from getting above mentioned basic pays the Veer Bandhus are also entitled to get DA, CA, House Rent, Ration Money, Medical Allowance, Kit Maintenance Allowance etc.
