The Mobile Task Force in Tripura has been functioning since 1970. Initially it was a small unit under the Supervision and control of the District Superintendents of Police. Subsequently, on 20/11/1975 a separate unit was set up independently to tackle the problem of illegal immigration. Besides, MHA (Border Management Division) had sanctioned 144 temporary posts under the MTF/PIF scheme in 1974. Later on, the strength was reduced to 128 (vide No. 11014/6/2005-B.M.III dated 17-03-2006). The expenditure of those temporary posts is borne by the Central Govt. on production of requisite audit certificate regarding expenditures etc.
The important function of Mobile Task Force is primarily detection, prosecution and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from this country.
